God Made Teachers

God understood our thirst for knowledge,
and our need to be led by someone wiser;
He needed a heart of compassion,
of encouragement, and patience;
Someone who would accept the challenge
regardless of the opposition;
Someone who could see potential
and believe in the best in others ...
So He made Teachers

Poem About Teachers

I'm So Much More Than Just A Teacher

I am a counselor and psychologist to a problem-filled child,
I am a police officer that controls a child gone wild.
I am a travel agent scheduling our trips for the year,
I am a confidante that wipes a crying child's tear.
I am a banker collecting money for a ton of different things,
I am a librarian showing adventures that a storybook brings.
I am a custodian that has to clean certain messes,
I am a psychic that learns to know all that everybody only guesses.
I am a photographer keeping pictures of a child's yearly growth,
When mother and father are gone for the day, I become both.
I am a doctor that detects when a child is feeling sick,
I am a politician that must know the laws and recognize a trick.
I am party planner for holidays to celebrate with all,
I am a decorator of a room, filling every wall.
I am a news reporter updating our nation's current events,
I am a detective solving small mysteries and ending all suspense.
I am a clown and comedian that makes the children laugh,
I am a dietitian assuring they have lunch or from mine I give them half.
When we seem to stray from our values, I become a preacher,
But I'm proud to have to be these people because...
I'm proud to say, "I am a teacher."

~ Stacy Bonino

Teaching Is...

A commitment to instill knowledge
in the minds and hearts of all students.
It is so much more than just a job.
It requires a love of humanity,
A belief in the human spirit,
a dedication to excellence,
and a resolve to make a difference
in the lives of others.
It is the foundation upon which
all forms of progress are based.
Those who are destined to teach,
spend their lifetimes investing
in the dreams of their students,
and in so doing, their own dream
invariably comes true.
To enlighten, to awaken, to inspire
all of those, whose lives they touch...
this is their dream!

Teacher's Rainbow

God says that unto each of us are gifts He has bestowed.
These gifts He's chosen carefully are treasures that we hold.

Each one has its own color like a rainbow to be viewed.
A teacher's gifts are plenty and her rainbow many hued.

Red of course is love for each child she comes to know.
For the way she understands them, and watches as they grow.

Pink the color of patience, which is needed everyday.
For question after question which learning minds convey.

Orange is for creative and enthusiastic students.
For making each task fun, yet learning while they do it.

Yellow is for the joy of knowing a teaching hand
Has helped a child who's struggled to finally understand.

Purple is for wisdom that is earned through many years.
Through laughter of the children intermingled with their tears.

Black is for the fears of the trials they've got to face.
For strength now planted in them, to face each test with grace.

Green the color for growing in spirit and in mind
Both the teacher and the student forever are entwined.

Teacher Appreciation Poems

Number One Teacher

I’m happy that you’re my teacher;
I enjoy each lesson you teach.
As my role model you inspire me
To dream and to work and to reach.

With your kindness you get my attention;
Every day you are planting a seed
Of curiosity and motivation
To know and to grow and succeed.

You help me fulfill my potential;
I’m thankful for all that you’ve done.
I admire you each day, and I just want to say,
As a teacher, you’re number one!

~ Joanna Fuchs

Teacher Appreciation

With a special gift for learning
And with a heart that deeply cares,
You add a lot of love
To everything you share,
And even though you mean a lot,
You’ll never know how much,
For you helped to change the world
Through every life you touched.
You sparked the creativity
In the students whom you taught,
And helped them strive for goals
That could not be bought,
You are such a special teacher
That no words can truly tell
However much you’re valued
For the work you do so well.
Thank you so much for being
So very nice, kind and good;
I like you so much, (Miss Giles)
I’d stay here if I could
I always loved your class;
Your teaching helped me see,
That to have a full and happy life,
Learning is the key.

Appreciation Poem for a Teacher

Favorite Teacher

Thank you, favorite teacher
For acting like a friend

and taking time to show me,
lessons hard to comprehend.

Thank you for your caring
and lots of other stuff;

For all the things you did,
I can't thank you enough.

Thank You Teacher

I thank you for your helping hand
for your warm and tender heart
and for the opportunity
to make a brand new start

I hold fast to tomorrow
and treasure each passing day
never taking for granted
that which can be taken away

I have learned to count my blessings
never dwelling on the past
and to build a brighter future
with the knowledge from your class

You taught me to be confident
I could do it if I tried
and taught me to have courage
to take everything in stride

You're such a wonderful teacher
for all it is plain to see
I just wanted to let you know
how much you have meant to me

~ Angela DeMelo

Thank You for Being a Teacher

Thank you for being a teacher
Who really, truly cares.
For loving each child so dearly,
And for keeping them in your prayers.

Thank you for being a teacher
Who helps show children the way.
For wiping their tears, and giving them cheers,
And teaching them how to pray.

Thank you for being a teacher
Who always does your part,
To teach children about our Saviour
And how he can live in their heart.

Thank you for being a teacher
Who tells each child you're glad they came.
And even though they are not perfect
You love them just the same.

Thank you for being a teacher
And everyday I hope you know,
That God has called you to this ministry
And His children you are helping to grow

Teacher

You're the heart of every classroom
The soul of every school
The mind behind the message
That learning is cool.
Your patience and understanding
Cannot be undersold,
Your courage and commitment
Is that of legends told.
Each day you teach our children
Is a day to rejoice,
Because of you our children
Will have their own voice.
So thank you dear teacher
For passing knowledge
Through the years.
You thought you were merely teaching,
When you were eliminating fears.
Thank You.

Teacher Appreciation Poem: Shining Star

We'd like to thank you for all that you've done.
For the time you've invested in our daughters and sons.
For the places you've taken them, and you've taken them far!
For leading and guiding them, to their North Star!
For your timeless energy that never seems to tire.
For that special talent you possess to inspire!
For making your students the best they can be.
For trying to teach them all to see;
how far they can fly and how high they can soar.
For making them all crave to learn more!
You've challenged their minds, their hearts and souls.
You've taught them it's possible to reach for their goals.
And as they journey through life near and far,
We will always remember their SHINING STAR!

Teacher Poem - Children Learn What They Live

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

Poems About Teachers

Why God Created Teachers

When God created teachers,
He gave us special friends
To help us understand His world
And truly comprehend
The beauty and the wonder
Of everything we see,
And become a better person
With each discovery.

When God created teachers,
He gave us special guides
To show us ways in which to grow
So we can all decide
How to live and how to do
What's right instead of wrong,
To lead us so that we can lead
And learn how to be strong.

Why God created teachers,
In His wisdom and His grace,
Was to help us learn to make our world
A better, wiser place.

Teacher Poem

Whose Child Is This?

"Whose child is this?" I asked one day
Seeing a little one out at play
"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile
"Mine to keep a little while
To bathe his hands and comb his hair
To tell him what he is to wear
To prepare him that he may always be good
And each day do the things he should"

"Whose child is this?" I asked again
As the door opened and someone came in
"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile
"Mine, to keep just for a little while
To teach him how to be gentle and kind
To train and direct his dear little mind
To help him live by every rule
And get the best he can from school"

"Whose child is this?" I ask once more
Just as the little one entered the door
"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled
And each took the hand of the little child
"Ours to love and train together
Ours this blessed task forever."

Poem from a Teacher

I'm glad I was your teacher
I've come to love you so
I can't believe the end is here
I hate to see you go!
Remember all the fun we had
In all the things we did
But most of all remember...
You're a very special kid!

Favorite Teacher Poem

Thank you, favorite teacher

And taking time to show me,
Lessons hard to comprehend.
Thank you for your caring

Toast to Teachers

There’s a lesson that awaits us when we get to where we’re going
Having walked the road we’re walking and to know the things we’re knowing
For amongst the gems uncovered, there is one that always features
We would not stand where we’re standing, if it wasn’t for our teachers
For every talent nurtured, every journey granted wings
Every step that takes us forward to the height of greater things
Every measure of success that marks the happiness we’ve earnt
It all stems back to resonate with something that we’ve learnt

When the medal is awarded or the pinnacle achieved
When the victory under pressure is supremely self-believed
In the rear vision mirror of that celebrating creature
Lies the hidden inspiration of at least one treasured teacher
And the modest grass roots hero at the coalface of success?
No accolade, no spotlight, but the win means nothing less
For in any proud accomplishment where expertise is cast
There is bound to be the whisper of a mentor from the past

And though much of life’s forgotten as the fire place is embered
To recollect those classroom days, the good ones are remembered
From the blaze of brilliant blackboards to philosophies of sport
The fingerprints of wisdom that were passionately taught
Are engraved upon our psyche like a strand of DNA
Like an aura of encouragement that opened up the way
The moulding of a mantra in the casting of a spell
The knowledge and the power and the discipline as well!

And it rides with you forever as the boldest dreams are fed
As a comfortable companion on the path that lies ahead
To the blue of the horizon! To the river of our reaching!
With a true appreciation for the fruits of better teaching
For the gold of greater coaching on and off the field of battle
That reflects a value higher than the glint of charm or chattel
Yes the hour has ascended for the flock to praise its preacher
In a humble, heartfelt way that just says ‘thank you’ to its teacher

It’s amazing, when you think of it, how much we’ve come to know
What’s even more amazing is how far we’ve got to go
Then another gem uncovers as the realisation features
That the tide of life has shifted when the taught become the teachers!
Yes the mighty circle turns again as self belief is burnt
In the next brigade of dreamers through the gift of lessons learnt
And the future beckons brighter as, I guess, it always will...
So long as there’s a teacher to accommodate the thrill

And the hour has ascended for the flock to praise its preacher
In a humble, heartfelt way that just says ‘thank you’ to its teacher

~ Rupert McCall

Teachers

Teachers
Paint their minds
and guide their thoughts
Share their achievements
and advise their faults

Inspire a Love
of knowledge and truth
As you light the path
Which leads to our youth

For our future brightens
with each lesson you teach
Each smile you lengthen
Each goal you help reach

for the dawn of each poet
each philosopher and king
Begins with a teacher
And the wisdom they bring.

~ Kevin William Huff

A Teacher for All Seasons

A teacher is like Spring,
Who nurtures new green sprouts,
Encourages and leads them,
Whenever they have doubts.

A teacher is like Summer,
Whose sunny temperament
Makes studying a pleasure,
Preventing discontent.

A teacher is like Fall,
With methods crisp and clear,
Lessons of bright colors
And a happy atmosphere.

A teacher is like Winter,
While it’s snowing hard outside,
Keeping students comfortable,
As a warm and helpful guide.

Teacher, you do all these things,
With a pleasant attitude;
You’re a teacher for all seasons,
And you have my gratitude!

Teacher's Prayer

I want to teach my students how
To live life on earth -
To face its struggles and its strife
And how to improve their worth -
Not just the lessons in a book
Or how the river flows -
But how to choose the proper path
Wherever they may go -
To understand eternal truth
And know right from wrong -
And gather all the beauty of
A flower and a song.
For if I help the world to grow
In wisdom and in grace,
Then I shall feel that I have won
And I have filled my place.
And so I ask your guidance, God,
That I may do my part,
For character and confidence
And happiness of heart.

~ James J. Metcalf

A Teacher's Prayer

I want to teach my students more
than lessons in a book;
I want to teach them deeper things
that people overlook.
The value of a rose in bloom,
its use and beauty, too,
A sense of curiosity to discover
what is true;
How to think and how to choose
the right above the wrong,
How to live and learn each day
and grow up to be strong;
To teach them always how to gain
in wisdom and in grace,
So they will someday make the world
a brighter, better place.
Lord, let me be a friend and guide
to give these minds a start
Upon their way down life's long road,
then I'll have done my part.

~ Jill Wolf

A Teacher's Poem

Every day you greet your students with a smile upon your face.
Though paperwork the night before seemed like a gruelling race.

Money's not your motivation, it's the love for what you do.
You hear that special calling to which you always stay true.

Your students are your dedication, devotion is to them.
To you each child's unique and special, a beautiful little gem.

Some days are just demanding and frustration takes its course.
Then you see those little faces, their inspiration is your force.

Each day you're in your classroom reminds you why you're there.
Making differences in children's lives with whom your heart you share.

There's a special pride in teachers, and a love for what you do.
And appreciation's always shared between those little lives and you!

Teacher

It takes a special person
To teach a child in class
To just keep his attention
In a world that moves so fast

To show a child he is unique
With talents deep inside
To help to build his confidence
So he can beam with pride

To show a little patience
For a child who's lost his way
To a child who feels abandoned
Who has seen better days

To inspire and to motivate
So a child can learn and grow
To go into this big wide world
That has its highs and lows

You are a special person
You always give your best
And for every child that has your class
Their life is truly blessed

Teacher Appreciation Poem

Although you're not their mother,
you care for them each day.

You cuddle, sing, and read to them,
and watch them as they play.

You see each new accomplishment,
you help them grow and learn,

You understand their language,
and you listen with concern.

They come to you for comfort,
and you kiss away their tears.

They proudly show their work to you,
you give the loudest cheers!

No, you are not their mothers,
but your role is just as strong.

You nurture them and keep them safe,
though maybe not for long.

You know someday the time may come,
when you will have to part,

But you know each child you cared for
is forever in your heart!!

and this poem comes from a teacher's perspective ...

One Hundred Years From Now

One hundred years from now
It will not matter
what car I drove,
what kind of house I lived in,
how much money was in my bank account
nor what my clothes looked like.
But the world may be a better place because
I was important in the life of a child

~ Excerpt from "Within My Power" by Forest Witcraft

A Teacher

  1. A provider of knowledge and insight.
  2. A mentor.
  3. One who inspires, motivates and opens up minds to the endless possibilities of which one can achieve.
  4. One who makes a positive difference in the lives of many.
  5. One who is admired, appreciated and held in the highest esteem.

And on the funny side...

Twas The Night Before School

Twas the night before school started
when all through the town,
the teachers were groaning...
a disturbing sound!
By 10 they were washed and tucked up in bed,
where memories of children filled them with dread!
New pencils, new folders new registers too!
New classes, new grey hairs their anxiety grew.
The parents just giggled when they learned of this fright,
"you've had 6 weeks off. They're all yours, tough shite!!
