FRIENDSHIP POEMS

Best Friends Holding Hands

Friendship is a personal relationship that is based on concern on the part of each friend for the well being of the other. Friendship is central to all our lives. A friend is someone we know, like and trust. A friend is someone who will help you in difficult times, stick by you when you are down and celebrates with you in good times.

Friendship Poetry

Some people make friends early on in childhood and maintain those friendships throughout their lives.

It has been said that everlasting friends go long periods of time without speaking and never question their friendship.

These friends pick up phones like they just spoke yesterday, regardless of how long it has been or how far away they live, and they don't hold grudges.

They understand that life is busy and you will always love them.

Friendship Poetry & Poems for Best Friends are an excellent way of voicing your love and appreciation for your best friend.

You may wish to use a poem for a special occasion to express your appreciation of friendship, for a birthday or just because you want to say thank you to a special friend.

The following anonymous poems write about the kind of friendship that we treasure.

Forever Friendship

Sometimes in life,
you find a special friend;
Someone who changes your life
just by being part of it.
Someone who makes you laugh
until you can't stop;
Someone who makes you believe
that there really is good in the world.
Someone who convinces you
that there really is an unlocked door
just waiting for you to open it.
This is forever friendship.

Oath of Friendship

I want to be your friend
For ever and ever without break or decay.
When the hills are all flat
And the rivers are all dry,
When it lightens and thunders in winter,
When it rains and snows in summer,
When Heaven and Earth mingle -
Not till then will I part from you.

If I could catch a rainbow,
I'd do it just for you,
And share with you its beauty,
On days when you feel blue.

If I could, I'd build a mountain,
You could call your very own,
A place to find serenity,
A place to be alone.

If I could take your troubles,
I would toss them in the sea,
But all these things , I'm finding,
Are impossible to me.

I cannot build a mountain,
Or catch a rainbow fair,
But let me be what I do best,
A friend who's always there.

Why God Gave Us Friends

God knew that everyone needs
Companionship and cheer,
He knew that people need someone
Whose thought are always near.

He knew they need someone kind
To lend a helping hand.
Someone to gladly take the time
To care and understand.

God knew that we all need someone
To share each happy day,
To be a source of courage
When troubles come our way.

Someone to be true to us,
Whether near or far apart.
Someone whose love we'll always
Hold and treasure in our hearts.
That's why God gave us friends

Friendship Poem: A Golden Chain

Friendship is a golden chain,
The links are friends so dear,
And like a rare and precious jewel
It's treasured more each year...

It's clasped together firmly
With a love that's deep and true,
And it's rich with happy memories
and fond recollections, too...

Time can't destroy its beauty
For, as long as memory lives,
Years can't erase the pleasure
That the joy of friendship gives...

For friendship is a priceless gift
That can't be bought or sold,
But to have an understanding friend
Is worth far more than gold...

And the Golden Chain of Friendship
Is a strong and blessed tie
Binding kindred hearts together
As the years go passing by.

A Circle of Friendship

A circle of friendship…
is bound together,
by sharing good moments
and Life’s stormy weather:

And should you feel lonely…
you needn’t pretend;
surrender your false pride
and lean on a friend.

A circle of friendship…
is a growing delight;
it helps dispel sadness,
as it lets in the ‘light.’

A circle of friendship…
warms you in its glow;
take that warmth with you
and feel the ‘love’ grow.

You stand in a circle…
with hands reaching out;
the giving of yourself,
is what friendship’s about!

A True Friend

A true friend doesn't care if you're rich or poor,
if you're being an ass, what you weigh, what
you look like, if your house is a mess,
what car you drive or if you have a family of
crazy people...!

Your conversations will pick up where they
left off, even if months have passed by. They
will be there for you when you need them the
most and despite your faults, will love you
with all their heart and cherish the times
spent with you...!

The poem, "The Pleasures of Friendship" by Stevie Smith (1902-1971)
is simple but ideal as a verse in a card to a friend.

Short Poems About Friendship

The Pleasures of Friendship

The pleasures of friendship are exquisite
How pleasant to go to a friend on a visit!
I go to my friend, we walk on the grass,
And the hours and moments like minutes pass.

~ Stevie Smith

A Friend

A friend is someone we turn to
when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure
for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives
with beauty, joy, and grace.
And makes the whole world we live in
a better and happier place.

Friendship Poem

Oh what joy it is
to have friends like you
For giving me strength
The way you do

For lifting me up
When I'm feeling down
And putting a smile on my face
When I'm wearing a frown

Thanks for being there
and helping me grow
Your friendship means a lot
this, I'd like you to know

~ Mary E. Carpio

Friendships

There are tall ships
There are long ships
There are ships that sail the sea,
But the best ships are friendships,
And may that always be.

A Friend

A friend is like a shade tree
Beside a summer way,
A friend is like the sunshine
That makes a perfect day,
A friend is like a flower
That's worn close to the heart,
A friend is like a treasure
With which one will not part.

For A Special Friend On Your Birthday

It's often said that special friends
are worth their weight in gold.
They bring you joy and comfort
As the passing years unfold.

They know just how to make us smile
and lift our spirits, too.
That's why I feel so fortunate
To have a friend like you.

Old Friends

Friendships that have stood the test
Time and change... are surely best.
Brows may wrinkle, hair grows gray,
Friendships never know decay.

Cherish friendship in your breast
New is good... but old is best.
Make new friends, but keep the old,
Those are silver, these are gold.

There's happiness in little things
There's joy in passing pleasure.
But friendships are, from year to year,
The best of all life's treasure.
~ Joseph Parry

Friendship As We Age

Loneliness is seldom found
When having some good friends around
Yet as we age, those numbers fall
For many reasons, I recall
Some have moved or passed away
Or gone to nursing homes to stay
With more time on hand, as we grow old
A visit is always nice I'm told
For tea and have a little chat
Whatever the subject, be this or that
Happiness comes with each cherished friend
Hoping for many, til journeys end.

~ Genevieve Gaherty

National Friendship Day - August 4

Friends we are,
forever we'll be,
Wherever we are,
you're right beside me.

I hope we stay friends,
'til the end of time,
And whenever that is,
our friendship will still shine.

You mean the world to me,
I hope the same with you,
You're always helping me,
whatever it takes you'll do.

So to every one of my friends,
you mean the world to me.
Friends we are, forever we'll be.

Friendship Day Poem

I love you for that certain smile
That cheers me up when I am blue
I love you for your tenderness
That warms me through and through

I love you for your kindness
And your understanding heart
The one that, somehow, always says
"I love you very much"

I love you for your faith in me
Your sweet and patient ways
For the many things you do
So often without praise

I love you for all these things
And for a million others too
But, most of all, for what I am
Whenever I'm with you

And a word or two from the one and only Robbie Burns:-

A Bottle And Friend

There's nane that's blest of human kind,
But the cheerful and the gay, man,
Fal, la, la, &c.

Here's a bottle and an honest friend!
What wad ye wish for mair, man?
Wha kens, before his life may end,
What his share may be o' care, man?

Then catch the moments as they fly,
And use them as ye ought, man:
Believe me, happiness is shy,
And comes not aye when sought, man.
~ Robert Burns

Friend

Never a day goes by
When I am not thinking of you
Because I value your friendship
And you've proven that it's true.

If I am having a bad day
I know it will come to an end,
When I see your beautiful smile
Feel the positive vibes that you send.

This world's a much better place
Because of people just like you
Who seek to help those in need
Expect nothing for what they do.

I am fortunate to be your friend
And I am only a phone call away.
I will always be there for you
Our friendship is here to stay.

The Gift of Friendship

Friendship is a priceless gift
That cannot be bought or sold,
But it's value is far greater
Than a mountain made of gold -
For gold is cold and lifeless,
It can neither see nor hear,
And in the time of trouble
It is powerless to cheer
It has no ears to listen,
No heart to understand,
It cannot bring you comfort
Or reach out a helping hand -
So when you ask God for a Gift,
Be thankful if He sends
Not diamonds, pearls or riches,
But the love of real true friends.
~ Helen Steiner Rice

This is a lovely modern friends poem, I'd love to know who the author is...

Friends

Written with a pen.
Sealed with a kiss.
If you are my friend, please answer this:
Are we friends Or are we not?
You told me once But I forgot.
So tell me now And tell me true.
So I can say.... "I'm here for you."
Of all the friends I've ever met,
You're the one I won't forget.
And if I die Before you do,
I'll go to heaven And wait for you.
~ Author Unknown

If two hearts are meant to be friends,
no matter how long it takes,
how far they go,
how tough it seems,
fate will bring them together
to share friendship forever.

This poem by Bill Johnson always brings a smile to my face, I hope it does to yours:-

From "A Toast to Friendship"

Give me a friend that the world is mine
give me a comrade rarer than wine
Richer than gold is the smile of a friend
richer and lovelier aye to the end

~ William Johnson

Friendship Poetry: Always Here For You

The door is always open
for you to come right in,
if you should ever need
the comfort of a friend

There’s a chair that’s always empty,
it’s reserved just for you,
and if it’s just a hug you need,
I can do that too

I’m always here for you!

Share A Hug Today

Here's a little hug for you
To make you smile when you feel blue
To make you happy if you're sad,
To let you know...life ain't so bad!

Now I've given a hug to you,
Somehow, I feel better too!
Hugs are better when you share,
So pass one on and show you care!

Friendship Poem

Oh what a joy it is
to have friends like you
For giving me strength
the way you do

For lifting me up
when I'm feeling down
And putting a smile on my face
when I'm wearing a frown

Thanks for being there
and helping me grow
Your friendship means a lot
this I'd like you to know

Christmas Greetings for a Friend

The Christmas Day brings memories
And kindest thoughts untold,
Of friends we may not often see
But hope to always hold;
So may this greeting be a link
In friendship's precious chain,
And may there be a Christmas Day
When we shall meet again

Best Friend Quote

Friends Holding Hands

The true friend is the one who’s coming in the door while everyone else is going out.
Friends are the ones who love you when you’re hard to love, stand by you when it’s not the popular thing to do, and are there for you when you need it, even if it means they don’t get anything back.
