Mother's Love

Her love is like an island
In life's ocean, vast and wide
A peaceful, quiet shelter
From the wind, the rain, the tide.
'Tis bound on the north by Hope,
By Patience on the West,
By tender Counsel on the South
And on the East by Rest.
Above it like a beacon light
Shine Faith, and Truth, and Prayer;
And thro' the changing scenes of life
I find a haven there.

Only One Mother

Hundreds of stars in the pretty sky,
Hundreds of shells on the shore together,
Hundreds of birds that go singing by,
Hundreds of birds in the sunny weather.
Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.

I Wish I Could Tell You Mom

I wish I could tell you, Mom
how much you mean to me....
But there are no words to say
how much I admire you...
how much I appreciate you...
how much I thank you
for everything you've done.

A Poem For Mom

You are the sunlight in my day,
You are the moon I see far away.
You are the tree I lean upon,
You are the one that makes troubles be gone.
You are the one who taught me life,
How not to fight, and what is right.
You are the words inside my song,
You are my love, my life, my mom.
You are the one who cares for me,
You are the eyes that help me see.
You are the one who knows me best,
When it's time to have fun and time to rest.
You are the one who has helped me dream,
You hear my heart and you hear my screams.
Afraid of life but looking for love,
I'm blessed for God sent you from above.
You are my friend, my heart, my soul
You are the greatest friend I know.
You are the words inside my song,
You are my love, my life, my Mom.

~ Champagne S. Baker

Two Mothers Remembered

I had two mothers - two mothers I claim,
two different people, yet with the same name.
Two separate women, diverse by design,
but I loved them both because they were mine.

The first was the mother who carried me here,
gave birth and nurtured and launched my career.
She was the one whose features I bear,
complete with the facial expressions I wear.

She gave her love, which follows me yet,
along with examples in life that she set.
As I got older, she somehow younger grew,
and we'd laugh as just mothers and daughters do.

But then came the time that her mind clouded so,
and I sensed that the mother I knew would soon go.
So quickly she changed and turned into the other,
a stranger dressed in the clothes of my mother.

Oh, she looked the same, at least at arms length,
but now she was the child and I was her strength.
We'd come full circle, we women three,
my mother the first, the second and me.

And if my own children should come to the day,
when a new mother comes and the old goes away,
I'd ask of them nothing that I didn't do.
Love both of your mothers as both have loved you.

My Mother kept a garden,
A garden of the heart,
She planted all the good things
That gave my life its start

She turned me to the sunshine
And encouraged me to dream,
Fostering and nurturing
The seeds of self-esteem...

Her constant good example
Always taught me right from wrong-
Markers for my pathway
That will last a lifetime long.

I am my Mother's garden.
I am her legacy-
And I hope today she feels the love
reflected back from me.

The Greatest Treasure - A Poem For Mom

The greatest treasure in the world
is not found beneath the earth
Its bounty has been with me all my life
from the very moment of my birth

When opened there is no gold or silver
and it isn't hard to find
It comes with unconditional love
and gives me peace of mind

When times are tough and I get down
it's the treasure I was given
That gently smiles and always says
I love you and you're forgiven

I wonder how she always knew
what I was feeling everyday
And when she held me in her arms
knowing just the right words to say

Yes, the greatest treasure in the world
could only come from God above
It is the tender, gentle heart
that is my mother's love.

Mother Poem - If I Could Build A Friend

If I were able to build a friend,
I'd choose the qualities on which I could depend.
Her eyes would tell me how much she cared,
and relieve my hurt when I felt alone and scared.

She'd smile that smile that says it'll be okay,
I'm always here for you night and day.
She'd cry with me when my world fell apart,
and I'd know the tears were from her heart.

She'd make me feel like a VIP,
and no one could ever be dearer to me.
So where should my search begin,
for this special lifetime friend?

There's only one person I trust for advice,
so I reach over to pick up my phoning device.
It occurred to me as I dialed the number,
this extraordinary friend is my very own Mother.

As you say, "hello", I get chills down my spine.
You're my very best friend dear Mother of mine.

Mom...

Your smile can light a thousand hearts
Your laughter dries all tears.
Your gracious never ending love
Can take away all fears.
There are no words, that can come close
To defining who you are.
You are my rock, my anchor,
and my shining north star.
It's an honor to follow in your footsteps,
To become all that I can be.
Because I have you in my life,
To love and guide me.
Thank you Mom, for all you've done,
And for everything you do.
This world is a better place,
Because of Mothers like you.
I love you.

Mum

You filled my days with rainbow lights,
Fairytales and sweet dream nights.
A kiss to wipe away my tears,
Gingerbread to ease my fears.
You gave the gift of life to me
and then in love, you set me free.
I thank you for your tender care,
For deep warm hugs and being there,
I hope that when you think of me,
A piece of you, you'll always see.

A Mother's Love

A Mother's love is something
that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away...
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are foresaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking...
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems...
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation...
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.

~ Helen Steiner Rice

A Prayer for a Mother's Birthday

Lord Jesus, Thou hast known
A mother's love and tender care:
And Thou wilt hear, while for my own
Mother most dear I make this birthday prayer.

Protect her life, I pray,
Who gave the gift of life to me;
And may she know, from day to day,
The deepening glow of Life that comes from Thee.

As once upon her breast
Fearless and well content I lay,
So let her heart, on Thee at rest,
Feel fears depart and troubles fade away.

Her every wish fulfill;
And even if Thou must refuse
In anything, let Thy wise will
A comfort bring such as kind mothers use.

Ah, hold her by the hand,
As once her hand held mine;
And though she may not understand
Life's winding way, lead her in peace divine.

I cannot pay my debt
For all the love that she has given;
But Thou, love's Lord, wilt not forget
Her due reward,--bless her in earth and heaven.

~ Henry Van Dyke

Heaven Needed Mom

So many things of Mom I miss--
Her gentle hug and tender kiss.
I still can feel her warm embrace,
And picture yet her loving face.

A mothers' tasks are never done,
And heaven must have needed one.
For angels came and took her hand
And led her to God's promised land.

She's surely kept quite busy there
While brushing little angels' hair.
And making sure they're dressed just right.
Not staying out too late at night.

Although there's sadness, this I know--
She's waiting there, her face aglow
I close my eyes and I can see--
Her arms still open wide for me.

Your Mother Is Always With You

Your mother is always with you.
She's the whisper of the leaves
as you walk down the street.
She's the smell of certain foods
you remember, flowers you pick,
the fragrance of life itself.
She's the cool hand on your brow
when you're not feeling well.
She's your breath in the air
on a cold winter's day.
She is the sound of the rain
that lulls you to sleep,
the colours of a rainbow;
she is Christmas morning.
Your mother lives inside your laughter.
She's the place you came from,
your first home, and she's the map
you follow with every step you take.
She's your first love, your first friend,
even your first enemy,
but nothing on earth can separate you
not time, not space... not even death.

MUM

When you left , I was bereft
Not for you, for me.
But all the times that we have shared
Are safely kept and free.

I travelled overseas quite soon,
I felt I had to flee
I felt the void you left behind,
You flying high and free

You always are around me,
In everything I do
In time and place both near and far,
I keep a space for you

Your children and their children
Share memories full of fun
To them you're always special,
Their distant number one

A mother's love is infinite
A mothers love is free
That love will last forever,
Wherever she may be

I know in time the day will come
When we shall meet again
In fields of green and skies of blue,
Our love won't wax and wane.

Mum

My mind still talks to you.
My heart still looks for you.
My soul knows you are at peace.
